The Hugh Tracey Kalimbas are the original kalimbas made by African Musical Instruments in Grahamstown, South Africa since 1965. Made from kiaat wood and high quality spring steel, these are real musical instruments and are easy to play, not just a pretty coffee table ornament. This instrument is played just like the 17-note treble Kalimba, but it lacks the resonant box. Consequently, it sounds even more like an antique music box than does the treble kalimba. The small sound board is well-suited for small hands or children. The small board also permits using the right index finger up-stroke method typically used in mbira playing.
