3Good for the money
By Jim Ventola
A high grade melodion costs three or four times what an Ariette costs. And if your aim is to play hard driving music, you might do better with top quality, used. If you can find one. But for what it is, the Ariette--at least the newer one, which I have--is giving me tons of pleasure. Nothing sticks. The bellows are a bit stiff--which is how at least one expert said they SHOULD be. (You should play with one strap on the bellows locked--to force control, it seems.) Anyway, if something better comes along go for it. But if you want to start playing now do not be afraid of the Ariette. Mind you, I am a mere noodler on English concertina, the wonderful toy accordions made also by Hohner, and now an Ariette.

PS I got rid of the thumb strap. Instead, I attached an old e-bag strap for a shoulder strap. That seems to give me the opposition a thumb strap provides and it seems more ergonomical, er, comfortable for me. I make a conscious effort to play softly--if I ever bring this to a session my mates will be glad of it. So I am not challenging the Ariette physically.

Again, for the money...

1Do not buy this!
By Celine
The first time this product arrived it was broken due to poor packaging.

After a month I got a new one. This time it was not broken but the wrong color. Which really doesn't matter, but this accordion is of really poor quality for what you are paying. Bubbles in the "wood", buttons stick, bellows aren't of very good quality. Do not buy this. Go to Kijiji or something so you can see the accordion.
